Of course we’re proud. Our real-life safety approach has borne numerous innovations and intelligent designs. Like our active head restraints (SAHR) fitted in the front seats. They’ve earned all Saab 9-3 and Saab 9-5 models top marks for protection against neck injury in rear-end collision tests conducted by Britain’s Thatcham insurance research centre. Announcing the latest results, Thatcham Crash Research Manager Matthew Avery said: “Saab has been a benchmark for designing seats to help prevent whiplash injury. The ‘best practice’ approach from Saab was a fundamental part of the International Insurance Whiplash Prevention Group’s test procedure and it encourages all manufacturers to fit similar systems.” The overall design of a Saab integrates a chain of interacting safety systems. An energy-absorbing front structure is designed to deform in a predictable and stable manner. The passenger compartment has a sturdy structure to help protect against crash forces. And a range of innovative interior systems help reduce the force of impact on the occupants, irrespective of age, size and seating position. Nonetheless, our ambition is that these safety systems should never have to be deployed. That’s why we put immense effort into crash prevention, based on real-life behaviour behind the wheel. |
