9-X Best Concept Car, Geneva 200803/04/2008 - 10:24:25 Saab wins “Best Concept” at Geneva Motor Show Saab’s latest concept car, the 9-X BioHybrid has been named “Best Concept” at the Geneva Motor Show. With this award, the 9-X BioHybrid joins the very successful Saab Aero X concept which also received AutoWeek’s “Best in Show” honors at its debut in Geneva two years ago. Anthony Lo, Director of Advanced Design at General Motors Europe spoke on behalf of the design team and the Saab Brand Centre in Sweden ‘We are thrilled that our work has been recognized with this prestigious award.’ Speaking about the concept car he said ‘The 9-X BioHybrid is a vision of what a future compact car from Saab could look like. It is designed to reflect the priorities of youthful customers who seek progressive looks, responsible performance and high-tech communications, all in a sporty, fun-to-drive package.’ Exploring design themes from Saab’s Aero X and earlier 9X concepts, the 9-X BioHybrid also demonstrates the potential for ultra-efficient power from a 200 hp (147 kW), 1.4-litre BioPower turbo engine backed by GM’s next-generation hybrid system. Projected combined cycle CO2 emissions of just 105 g/km on E85 fuel are testimony to the promise of this package. Saab 9-X BioHybrid brings a dynamic new dimension to premium compact car segment The 9-X BioHybrid was created by a team under Anthony Lo, Director of Advanced Design at General Motors Europe, working in co-operation with the Saab Brand Center in Sweden. With its compact proportions, wide stance and extended roof line, the three-door Saab 9-X BioHybrid brings a dynamic, new dimension to the premium compact segment. The wrap around window graphic, smooth fuselage bodywork – without any visible handles or even door mirrors – and ‘ice block’ lighting themes draw on roots in Scandinavian design and Saab’s aircraft heritage. Scandinavian values also are present in the environmentally-conscious powertrain – an innovative bioethanol-hybrid combination. Mark Adams, Vice President GM Europe Design, will be driving the Saab. “This is the second year in a row Saab has been invited to Villa d’Este: This shows that our unique Scandinavian design themes remain a progressive force in automotive design,” he said. |
